JOURNEY THROUGH THE HEART OF EUROPE: FROM PRAGUE TO BUDAPEST

& THE NYU PRAGUE GLOBAL CENTER

Itinerary:
 

DAY 1: Arrive Prague

Upon arrival at the Václav Havel Airport Prague, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. This evening, you will meet your guide and fellow NYU alumni travelers and enjoy a welcome dinner before embarking on an iconic river cruise to experience the city by night.

DAY 2: Prague

After breakfast, you will journey through the past of iconic individuals and communities that have shaped this uniquely positioned cultural center. This morning, follow in the footsteps of Franz Kafka, regarded by some as one of the most important writers of the 20th century.

 

After a traditional lunch in the Old Town, you will continue through Prague’s world famous Jewish Town, one of the most important centers of Jewish life in Medieval Europe.

 

This evening, you will be welcomed at the NYU Prague Global Site for a reception. You will have the chance to learn about the global educational initiatives underway as a part of New York University’s global network as well as experience the cultural depth of the NYU Prague Global Site. Enjoy time getting to know local alumni as well as faculty, staff and students and maybe even have the opportunity to experience a musical performance by talented students.

DAY 3: Prague

After breakfast at the hotel, you will head out to explore the iconic Prague Castle and the Lesser Quarter. One of the only cities in the world that boasts such an intact living architectural history with buildings spanning styles from early Romanesque through Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Art Nouveau, Bauhaus and more, you will spend the day visiting the legendary Prague Castle, sights and the side streets of this intriguing city that is an open air museum of architecture.

 

This evening you can enjoy dinner on your own with dinning and festive nightlife options within easy walking distance of your centrally located hotel.

DAYS 4 & 5: Prague / Brno

Our next two days are spent traveling through the rich cultural heritage and scenic countryside of the Czech Republic. You will vist the UNESCO listed town of Kutná Hora and its classic St Barbara Cathedral and Old Town where you will have time to explore and enjoy lunch on your own in one of the quaint, local restaurants.

​

Experience the little known wine region of Moravia where production of exceptional wines doesn’t even keep up with local demand.  You will taste the local wines at a regional producer followed by a visit to the interiors of this exceptional property.  

​

In the evenings you will enjoy dinner together of local fare in the company of your fellow alumni.

 

Overnights in Brno

Meals Included: Breakfast (Day 4&5), Lunch (Day 5), Dinner (Day 4&5)

 
DAY 6: Brno / Bratislava / Pécs

On route today you will travel through time and heritage by way of the Slovakian the towns of Bratislava and Györ. The drive will reveal the beauty of the Central European countryside as you make your way to Pécs, a town where the old and the modern meet, with rennovated squares, cultural centers, and concert halls mixed amongst UNESCO sites.

 

After a long but scenic drive with stops along the way, we arrive at our home for the next two nights in Pécs and enjoy dinner at the hotel.

DAY 7: Pécs

Pécs refers to itself as "The Borderless City", referencing its wide heritage, from early Christian and Turkish sights to the world-renowned Zsolnay ceramics factory.

 

The new Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, declared to be a Hungaricum (a unique Hungarian product or attraction) in 2014. This is where the Zsolnay family, famous for porcelain production, lived in the 19-20th century. Today, the Zsolnay heritage lives on with every square meter of the quarter filled with cozy cafes and artisan shops filled with selections of special local products.

​

This afternoon, you will also visit the Basilica and the Early Christian Mausoleum as well as other highlights, including the mosque, the synagogue and the main square.

​

Dinner tonight is on your own to explore this quaint yet vibrant corner of Hungary.

DAY 8: Pécs / Villány / Budapest

After breakfast, the town of Villány is the first stop as you make your way to Budapest. Famous for its wine and rustic cellars, you will enjoy a tour and tasting before sitting down to lunch at a local vineyard. 

​

After lunch we continue to Budapest. Tonight you are free to explore Budapest and enjoy one of the many local eateries in town just steps from the hotels front door.

DAY 9: Budapest

After a delicious breakfast, depart on foot to experience Castle Hill and the entire the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Buda Castle District. The city’s diverse architecture offers a unique glimpse into its history.

​

After a morning of exploring, you will have time for lunch on your own before getting an inside look at the local music culture with a visit to the Liszt Ferenc Academy.  The Academy of Music (Zeneakadémia) in Budapest was founded in the 1870s, enabling talented music students to receive higher education in Hungary, which until then was possible only abroad. One of the biggest supporters of the conservatory was Ferenc Liszt, the famous Hungarian-born composer.

​

Spend some time wandering the streets of Budapest this afternoon before gathering this evening to enjoy a celebratory farewell dinner and commemorate the end of your journey.

DAY 10: Budapest / Home

After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy time at leisure in Budapest before transferring to the airport for return flights home.

In the unlikely event the program is under enrolled and cannot run, all payments made will be refunded 90 days prior to departure.

Airfare to Prague/from Budapest, gratuities for drivers and guides, beverages with meals or alcoholic beverages, personal expenses, airport taxes and bagagge fees, any required passport, visa or other government entry fees if applicable, optional travel insurance.

ARRIVE / DEPART:

Please plan to arrive Prague, Czech Republic by 5pm on Day 1 of the itinerary. You may depart anytime on the final day out of Budapest. If you need assistance with your flights, Destination Partners air department will be happy to assist with your round-trip travel arrangements.
