DAYS 1 & 2: Buenos Aires

Our first night we meet our guide and fellow travelers for a festive Welcome Dinner in the revived Puerto Madero barrio. The largest urban renewal project in the city, the waterfront of this former port has been redesigned with international flair.

The next morning we set out to explore Buenos Aires. Topping the lists as one of the great Latin American cities, we will discover this culturally diverse and continually evolving city. It is no wonder that the NYU Buenos Aires Global Center is a thriving and integral part of the NYU global network.

This evening, we will be welcomed at the NYU Global Center by the local Buenos Aires alumni group as well as NYU Center staff for a relaxing, social reception. Following the reception, we are free to explore Buenos Aires' vibrant food scene for dinner on our own.

DAYS 3 & 4: Mendoza

After breakfast, we depart on our domestic flight to Mendoza, located at the foot of the Andes Mountains. Upon arrival, our local guide will take us into the city of Mendoza to explore this oasis that has survived thanks to the glacial waters of the Andes distributed by artifical watering systems first developed by the Incans. Mendoza is renowned for its world class wine and olive production, dating back to the 16th century during the Spanish colonization. The city is still rich with storied history of the many cultures that have influenced the region.

The next day we enjoy this ancient and traditional wine region. Known as the first wine area of Argentina, wine labels of this region have gained international recognition. After a morning tasting, we will learn the secrets of Argentine food and wine with the help of the chef at Bodega Norton. We will learn how to use regional products in the cooking of traditional dishes in a cooking class followed by a delicious lunch paired perfectly with Norton wines. There is no better place to enjoy a meal; the view of the Andes Mountains with vineyards in the foreground is of extraordinary beauty.

We return to the hotel in the evening after a rewarding day and have time to enjoy the city and dinner on our own.

Before reaching our home for the night, we visit the expansive salt desert, Salinas Grandes. A landscape like no other, we will visit the impressive salt mines and learn about this area's industrial importance.
